About Vagabond Angler Fly Fishing and Solan

Solan Renolen

My name is Solan Renolen, also known as The Vagabond Angler, and I am a professional angler and photographer.
I was born in 1950 in Norway.
I am father of three, and a grandfather.

Today I spend most of my time in Norway, but I like to travel, mainly in Denmark, Germany, UK, Italy and France. On my journeys I always bring with me a fishing rod and a camera.

Solan, the fisherman:

As I remember it, I caught my first fish in 1955, a grayling. Ever since I have kept on fishing.
Today, in addition to catching fish, I work as a guide, an angling instructor, and a fly casting instructor.
My favourite fishes are grayling, pike, cod and coal fish.
My favourite water is river Glomma and lake Vurrusjøen, both in southeast Norway, and the sea around Hitra on the coast west of Trondheim, Norway.

Solan, the photographer:

I bought my first camera in 1961. From that day on I have kept on shooting pictures. My work has been published in newspapers and magazines, and exhibited in art galleries in Norway and Denmark.
Today my pictures can be found on walls in Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Germany, Uganda and Canada.

If you want tuition in photography see my photo site www.bestebilde.no.

Vagabond Angler Fly Fishing:

In the municipality Stor Elvdal in the south east of Norway, Vagabond Angler Fly Fishing have a stretch of river Glomma to disposal. The stretch is 2,5 km long and hold a vast amount of grayling and brown trout. The river stretch is ideal for fishing with dry fly, wet fly and nymphs.

Glomma is the biggest river in Norway, and it is considered one of the best Scandinavian rivers for fly fishing for grayling.
